Who is a Physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists are healthcare professionals, highly skilled experts in movement, who work in partnership with their patients to help them remain mobile and active throughout their lives. We often evaluate life by its quality, and physiotherapists are indispensable in improving that quality in times of physical crisis. We must care deeply about people and fight to restore their hope when they suffer from the loss or decline of physical function.

By using advanced techniques and evidence-based medicine, physiotherapists assess, diagnose, treat, and prevent a wide range of health conditions and movement disorders.

We work in the most rewarding field of medicine, where the results of our work are clearly visible. The more we invest in our patients, the more we receive in return. Nowhere else in medicine is progress as tangible as in physical medicine and kinesiotherapy – from complete immobility to full independence.

In the future, physiotherapists will have vast opportunities for research, professional development, specialization, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

Physiotherapists must preserve their right to continuous education and, through their work, help people regain essential abilities—walking, standing, sitting, using their hands, dressing themselves, breathing, coughing, giving birth more easily, and living without pain. In this broad scope of practice, there is room for all who are professionally mature and value the equality of teamwork.

Physiotherapists in Serbia, like their peers globally, want to apply modern technologies and techniques, work toward standardizing their practice and education, communicate as equals, and promote their profession with dignity.

We know who we are and what we can achieve. How far we go depends solely on our knowledge, mutual understanding, tolerance, and perseverance to overcome challenges. We teach our patients that time and patience are the most important tools for successful rehabilitation. We must apply this same philosophy to ourselves. By setting realistic goals and working patiently and persistently, with carefully chosen words and actions, we can achieve more than we ever imagined.

Let us invest in our knowledge and enjoy our profession. “No one in the world is stronger than a person who knows.” Generational wisdom proves this—there is no need to test it. Let us stand together as professionals, face challenges responsibly, and claim our right to optimism and progress.
